Summer Driver - A Bottle Of Water

I happen to live within 5 miles of my workplace, so I ride my bicycle to work on almost a daily basis.  Although it’s only 5 miles, the ride can become long due to heat, traffic, rude people, etc.  Fortunately for me I happened to experience an act of kindness by a good person on my way home from work yesterday.

The temperature was 97 degrees.  Humidity was in the upper-90’s.  I had been working outside (in the shade, but nevertheless outside) for a period of 8 hours and was ready to pedal my way home.  Feeling faint from the heat, I began my trek home and struggled the whole way.

At a crosswalk a driver in an annoymous car pulled up next to me and rolled down her window.  “I passed you earlier and felt bad about you riding in this weather,” she said.  “I bought you a bottle of water since it’s so hot out.” Ravished by thirst, I thanked her for the water and watched her pull away from the curb as I poured the liquid down my throat.

Nothing big, however not a small act of kindness either.  Just enough to remind me that people care and that random acts of kindness exist when good people are allowed to express themselves.
