Stranger - Giving Up A Seat
Yesterday, i was riding the subway, and it was ridiculously hot and muggy. It was around 6 or 7 pm, rush hour and everyone looked just exhausted. Looking particularly beat was a young man sitting across from me. Dressed in a hooded sweatshirt and army pants, he looked as though he had had a hard day of physical labor, if not great stress.
At the next stop, the train had a few more passengers and the seats filled. Scrambling on at the last minute was a somewhat harried looking man with his twin sons. The were adorable and well-behaved, but obviously extremely energetic. They each grabbed onto the pole for dear life, their tiny little bodies struggling to stay still.
The young man across from me stood and gestured to the father for the sons to take his seat. The father protested at first, but the young man was insistent, and the father relented, with a great look of relief. The boys sat, and the father, having a rare moment of peace, closed his eyes just briefly.
The exhausted young man stood for the entire rest of the ride home.
