Steve - A Toshiba Copier Repairman In Brentwood, TN

Really silly and simple stuff here, but it made my day, so I felt it worthy to mention. 

My office, on a daily - no, hourly basis, is brimming with negativity in all its ugly forms.  Today was no different than any other.  It is two days from month-end, and our copier conked out.  Not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but a veritable catastrophe in the eyes of many whom I work with. 

Enter Steve, the Toshiba copier repairman.  He was called from another job to come take care of our “emergency” request.  He could have been a total jerk, complaining that he drove out to our office on a rainy, gloomy afternoon to stick his hands inside a dangerously hot machine with shreds of twisted paper wreaking havoc on the belly of our copier, yet he arrived smiling, very polite and professional with a strong sense of warmth and genuineness about him.  I showed him where our ailing copier was, and he diligently went to work on it, only to find that it was a bigger problem that he could not address at that moment.  Long story short, he was extremely cool and nice and friendly, and he even told me, as he was leaving, that it was an “absolute pleasure” to have met me.  I felt the same way, Steve.  What a cool dude who made a difference in my day today.  I wish there were more Steves out there that I would encounter on a regular basis, but I suppose if there were, it wouldn’t be so special when I encounter them.  There was a neat human connection that happened today.  Two random strangers being polite and humane to one another when we could have both been real jerks or indifferent or rushed or too preoccupied to take what amounted to a few moments of human decency shared with one another.  That’s all I’ve got for tonight.  Thanks for listening.  =)
