The Damn Yankees song, “You Gotta Have Heart,” talks about how it takes more to win than just skill. There has to be a desire within your heart. Just relying on skill doesn’t equate to winning.

“You Gotta Have Heart” means, too, that you have to care. Sandy Carlson does; she has heart. It’s apparent in how she cares for her daughter, in the way she works with non-profits gratis to try to boost their media presence and image, in how she teaches and interacts with her college students, and in the way she helps those down on their luck try rebuild themselves.

A loyal and loving person, Sandy will go to bat without hesitation for those she loves, respects and cares about. She’s true to what she believes, she stands by her convictions, and she’s not afraid to tell anyone what she thinks.

Sandy is the type of friend everyone wants, but not everyone finds. She’s a special person who demands little in return, but who deserves everything.
