Random Friendly Driver

Two years ago, while still a student in college, I owned a car that was a bit “unreliable” to say the least.  It seemed like I was constantly having problems with it, and it broke down on me more than once.  My job required me to drive down a busy stretch of interstate on a daily basis and it was always one of my worst fears that I would have car trouble on that particular stretch of road.  Well, one day my fears became reality and I experienced a very frustrating situation…

I was driving along in heavy traffic when I heard a loud bang and felt my car begin to swerve.  Keep in mind that traffic was moving at 70 mph, so an unexpected swerve wasn’t exactly a pleasant feeling to have while holding the steering wheel.  My car started pulling towards the ditch, I could feel heavy thumps every few feet, and it felt like my only option was to immediately pull to the side of the road - which I did.

After carefully exiting my car (I was still on the side of the busy interstate) I surveyed what had happened and realized that my tire had completely blew up.  I mean I’ve seen flat tires before, but this was like the whole tire just exploded.  I re-entered my car, turned on the hazard lights, and nervously wondered what to do next since it was begining to get dark and I was scared about the possibility of getting hit from behind while changing a tire on such a busy road.

Just as a decided to brave the tire change, a motorist pulled up behind me and climbed out of his car.  He had seen my hazard lights flashing and pulled over to help.  With his skilled hands (not to mention the addition of his hazard lights also warning drivers of our location) he helped me change my tire and get back on the road within a matter of minutes. 

I never quite caught his name, but this random driver helped me get home that night safely and securely.  I thank that man for being such a good person.
