Military Wives - An Unselfish Sacrifice

I have decided that I had a duty to all army wives to write this and say thank you. As an army wife myself I know the hardships you deal with on a daily bases and all of you are some of the strongest women in the world. Often, our husbands are the only ones recognized for making sacrifices but we do everyday as well. How often are we giving up sleeping next to our husbands and feeling safe so that he may be off making sure someone else is safe, or watching our children grow up alone just so that our husbands may protect the right for them to do that.

So often I hear people make the remarks “Why should I thank you? How hard can it be to be a stay at home mom?” I stop myself from wanting to tackle the individual and I smile and then reply, “Well, this is how hard it is: try kissing your husband before he leaves for war wondering if there will be a next time, or watching your baby walk for the first time and wishing that daddy could be home to see it and be so proud. Try moving your family somewhere scary and new all the time and sometimes be worlds apart from your family. If that’s not proof enough, how about giving your heart to someone that you have to be away from for months at a time and not feel whole again until you reunite.” By this time there is usually silence and I know they never stopped to think of what I give up everyday so that one more soldier is out there doing their job and making sure that we have the freedoms that we do.

We as wives to service men stand behind them proud and true and would give it all up again because it’s what we do. So next time you meet a military wife or have a chance to say something, do say thanks because it will make her day and remind her that someone does notice or understand what she does daily for loving a soldier.
