Melissa Gonzalez - A True Friend

I met Melissa last year through a very random way, the details of which are neither here nor there. Relationships come and go, and it’s hard to let someone go, but sometimes you’re rewarded. It has been one year and the only thing I can say to her is: thank you, thank you thank you thank you thank you… from the bottom of my heart. Melissa is my best friend; she is the Gayle King to my Oprah Winfrey. Through any and all sorts of troubles, real or imagined, that I have, she has been there for me. Though I may not always show it or recognize it, I know that she opened her heart to me and cares for me as if I were her brother. This past year was particularly painful in many ways: friends died, my health has been spotty… but it has also been a ride made all the more amazing having her as co-pilot. Through it all, she’s been there, even when I didn’t ask, even when I didn’t know I needed her. Just a phone call away, never hesitant to offer a hug (or a slap) when needed. I’ve tried to return the favour and I may not always live up to it, but I’m trying. And I will do so for the rest of my life. I really cannot describe what she means to me. I don’t know who I would be today without her in my life.
