“Just” Rob

Rob never gives himself enough credit.  If he were a character in the movie Princess Bride he’d be Wesley, with the tag-line “whatever you wish”, because he believes in true love.  He is today’s modern romantic, and if you could really live on love he’d be todays poster child for loverboy. He’s so willing to open himself up to others and to love them unconditionally, that he loves not only those who love him, but sometimes those who aren’t likely to return what love he shares.

He underestimates himself so much that you would find him listed as “just Rob” on MySpace today, even though he is so much more than just Rob. He is a friend like no other.  He doesn’t expect a large return on his emotional investments in others.  He puts love as a first priority in his life, making all other commitments and dreams a last priority.  Although this is not the most pursuable path for most, I believe it is something to be admired.  It is admirable in my eyes that someone could be so giving of themselves with such small expectations in others. 

Just as an example of his kindness and friendship; during the moving process for my husband and I when we were trying to resell our home and buy a new one, he spent countless hours working with us on our home to make it sellable and helped my husband move furniture into storage so that we could prepare for the move; expecting nothing in return.  If we have a bad day or night, he wants to listen and talk about it, and yet he always has a positive attitude in response to any complaints.  He acts as an uncle to our children, as a family member by blood would.  He acts as a brother to both my husband and I.  He acts as a leaning shoulder when we are down.  He comes to everyone with an open heart and mind that would have them, and values the little things.  Although, it may not be the easiest path to follow to always put love first, Rob is just the kind of person more of us should model ourselves after; there would definitely be a lot less hurt in the world, and a lot more people marrying for true love rather than money or lust.
