JESSICA LEE VANVOLKINGBURG!

There is something I feel the world should know about this girl! She is the strongest person I know and I’ll tell you why!

I first met this girl when I was in the 8th grad and in history class.  She came to Kingsley High School with a bad attitude towards everyone - until she met me. I soon became her best friend after simple conversation about almost anything but family issues. When she finally invited me over I soon found out that her parents had issues with each other, though they tried to keep it private. Her father never knew, but Jessica’s mother Yolanda had become one of us and granted us everything we wished.

I soon found Yolanda cared about nothing except her children.  She took them to school and took us out to eat often, until one day she started to desert her family in order to feel loved by others.  Soon after, Jessica started getting into trouble owing to the fact that she felt deserted by her mom, the only thing she cared about.  She was then ripped away from me and became a citizen in Flint.

She would call me often after she finally got settled in. She was devastated. Her mom and dad were going through divorce and she had no one for guidance. Well, one day her mom decided to take a turn for the worst. She became a coke addict and was never around.  Pretty soon she had forgotten the real reason why she moved, to make it easier for her children. Rent wasn’t paid and Jessica was on the streets trying to care for her little brother Glen.  She would go house to house to find someone who cared.

She finally got put into foster care, which wasn’t her idea of a great life. Soon after, she ran away and came to me. She showed up at my door step at 3:00 a.m. Jessica was more scared and willing to do anythig to become close again.

She soon found out she was pregnant by her boyfriend she’d been dateing for a couple of months. I convinced her not to have an abortion and wanted to give her my gentle hand to convince her what was right. She never faltered and went through everything just to have this kid.  His name is Cameron and he is 8 moinths old now. Jessica was soon accused by her foster mom (who I want to mention has always wanted him as her own and that’s the truth) accused her of trying to shake and smother him to death, which isn’t true. After everything she has gone through, her son is the one thing she will fight for to the end because she knows what it’s like to have a dysfunctional family and to grow up without a mother!

However, Cameron was taken away from her and is now living with the father (Cody) at his grandmas house. His aunt is also crazy and tries to get Cameron to call HER mommy!  Now Jessica is brought to court at least once a month because of new charges brought aginst her for random things like repeatedly trying to smother Cameron (made by Cody’s aunt and Jessica’s foster mom). Nonetheless, she is trying to be successful with getting jobs anywhere she can and in twelve weeks she will receive a GED!  She is hard-working though she has no money! Her dad is a truck driver and is often out of town. He has recently received custody over Jessica and her little brother Glen who is also in foster care.

Jessica has no family support and she needs support so she can get back Cameron and fight the court over what is best for her child! The father wants to get full custody even though they smoke in the same room as Cameran and he’s hardly ever around. The point is, this girl needs to now the world has been through the same hardships and would give anything to have support even by those who might not have any idea of what it’s like to be in her position.

If you would please write me back with your opinions so I could show her she is a good mommy and the world is on her side to give her the support she needs!  I will always love you Jess.  You will be very successful if you keep fighting for what you know deep down is right for Cameron! I love you girly!  Stay strong!
