Jathniel L. - A One of a Kind

I wonder how my life would have turned out had I not met this great friend of mine, Jath.

Our friendship ultimately started in the summer of ‘03 but it grew more elaborately during my sophomore year (’05) when I needed guidance with my woman-troubles. It was my first girlfriend, so I didn’t have any clue how to handle any situation. So, in AP Chemistry, instead of doing labs or homework, which was on the agenda for the day, we’d discuss my problems and he’d always have the solution to it. He’d enlighten me with his thinking and his perspective in any situation. In fact, I learned what a healthy relationship was based upon and how I shouldn’t be overly concerned with every detail. What’s amazing is that he didn’t approve of our relationship, which he openly told me, yet he still offered me help. He supported my actions, even though he didn’t agree with them. I truly am grateful for that - he’s an image of a true friend.

Times have changed and the tables have turned; now I try to help him with his troubles. I try hard to help him with his problems, but I can never be the sanguine person he was to me simply because he holds wisdom of a very wise man. However, whenever he needs a coffee break or a meal, more than often will it be me and him enjoying each other’s company. With a sip of coffee or a bite of top quality sushi, I listen to his every word he says and try to help him out with the knowledge that I’ve gained, which isn’t much to begin with, but I try anyway.

What I’m getting at is that he has been, and always will be, a good, honest friend. The reason why I help him out isn’t because I’m paying back for what he’s done for me, but simply to be a good friend. He’s changed the way I view the world, and I hope I’ve influence him in a positive way.

I’m not going to meet every single person in this world, but I am glad that I’ve met Jath. He truly is a one of a kind.
