Grandma Millie

I come from a divorced family.  My parents married young and I was stuck in the middle of all the mess.  My gramma Millie and grandpa saved me from all of it. They took me in under their wing to raise me when, at 60 years old, they could have been enjoying retirement life. They put me through school, nursed me when I was sick, were there for my wedding, and so far they’re still kicking.

I’m 35 years old today. I have been able to witness each parent that could have raised me and seen the inside of what I could have turned out to be. I’m glad my grandparents raised me.  I was brought up by old fashioned morals and can survive in almost any situation. Most people don’t even know how to warm a hot dog. I can create a meal out of what little I have in the kitchen. “Farmers values” is what it was always called. Whatever you think is waste - save it unless it is bad.  It can probably be turned into a feast.

They have been married for over 65 years.  I know I won’t make it that long, but they have been the best example a girl could have. Never ever take your grandparents for granted - or anyone in your family. They all have a story to share with you.  You just need to listen and embrace.
