Donovan Lyman - The Best Kind

Donovan is a hard one to be friends with. He’s always in and out of town, touring, and visiting the friends and family he has come to know and love around the country. He’s never gone too long, just long enough.  Hundreds of women swoon when he’s up on stage and I see them whisper to each other when he makes eye contact with them, as he’s singing their favorite song.  On the outside his life is perfect, full of exciting shows and beautiful people. I know the inside though and the inside is another story.

Everyone wants to know this man, but few have really taken the time to try. His days start by answering loads of emails, promoting his band, balancing a few instant messages, booking shows, designing posters and usually ends with much of the same. You see, music is in his blood and he can’t help but live to the beat of his heart. I have never met another person with as much drive and determination as Donovan. He calls me animated because my expressions change with my moods; he doesn’t realize he’s the same way.  His eyes tell me when he’s had a bad day.

He has more friends than I’ll ever have, but few he can really count on. There are times when I want to slap him because he knows what buttons to push, but then there are other moments when I watch him interact with his cat and his gentleness makes me hold my hand back. I have equated him to the Hulk from time to time.  When he’s thinking about something he strokes his goatee, and I want to ask what he’s thinking because his stories and thoughts are always intresting. Donovan calls himself a “Raggedstar” and I’d have to agree. He’s not perfect, sometimes he can get under your skin, but thats what I love about him.  If stripped of body and bone and only left with a soul and heart I can say with all honesty that he is a good, good man.  And to me, that’s all that matters.
