Charles Phelps
Mr. Phelps was my sophomore English teacher at Danbury High School and he was the terror of all the straight-A students because there was no way around working hard in his class. No schmoozing.
So we worked hard for this man who untangled all our previous English class lessons into the logic of clear thought. Learn the rule and follow it; if you break it, do so for good reason and to good effect.
You can’t succeed if you don’t know how to write.
Keep it simple, learn it well, don’t compromise, and don’t expect a free ride. This was English class with Mr. Phelps at Danbury High School.
He taught us how to write; he taught us how to live with integrity.
