Bootsy - My Beloved Dog

I know this website is supposed to be about people but I would like to take a moment to focus on a little dog who has brought an unimaginable amount of joy and happiness into my own life and those of so many others. Her name is Bootsy and she is the sweetest little gray Pomapoo (Pomeranian Poodle mix) in the world.
A year ago my brother (Evan) decided to buy a dog. Because the owners of the building did not allow dogs, they had to buy a tiny dog that never barked. I went with him and we played with a few dogs but Bootsy was really cute and he fell in love with her instantly. Bootsy was only 4 pounds. She was a foot long and 7 inches high. Today she is a pound heavier and a bit longer but other than that the same tiny dog.
Her first weekend at home was very special. She was a tiny, nervous little dog who looked at us for permission before every cautious step she took. We wrapped her in a towel and carried her around that way (like a little baby) because she was always cold.
When Monday came my brother could not part with her and so he put her in his coat to brave the freezing New York winter morning and took her on the packed subway. She nervously peered out at all the people on the busy morning train. When we finally got to the office she sat on the couch, wrapped up in a ball, and watched everybody working.
Today she has grown into the sweetest, most loving lap-dog you could ever want to see. She has a tail that never stops wagging. People always warn her that her tail could break but she pays them no heed. The tradition remains and she comes to the office every day to see all of her human friends. She takes turns keeping company everyone in the office. She sits on my lap, she sits under my brother’s desk, she sits on the chair of whomever might go to lunch to keep it warm for that person, etc.
When she stays with me at night, she puts her head on my pillow and sleeps next to me. Whenever I get up to go anywhere she stands there and stares at me. If it seems like I might leave she pouts and in the event I actually do leave there is a lot of loud sobbing. But upon my return she rolls over on her back for a tummy-rub, wags her tail like crazy and then starts smiling and running all over the house.
But my favorite part of her companionship is when we go for a walk. Normally people can be kind of cold and unfriendly in New York but when I walk Bootsy everybody is so nice. All sorts of people stop and smile and pet her and ask what kind of dog she is. We start talking about all sorts of things. I have met so many wonderful people this way. I think that dog owners are some of the most loving, wonderful folks out there.
Anyway, this one is for my beloved Bootsy. You’re the best, girl!!
