Amanda Moreno--The World’s Most Caring Nurse
My Husband was admitted to Fremont Medical Center on October 11, 2006 for what would be the last portion of his life. His cancer diagnosis came suddenly and it devastated our family. Unfortunately we had been plagued by some of the most vile nurses that the Yuba Sutter area had to offer; they forgot that he was a person--a person with feelings. My husband had grown increasingly hostile and difficult to deal with during the last stage of his life and they insisted on keeping him restrained down to the bed and sedated most of the time. This continued for almost a month.
Then, on November 9th, 2006, an angel entered the room. Her name was Amanda Moreno - she was a student RN from the Yuba College nursing program. The first thing she did was remove my husbands restraints and give the reversal agent for his sedation. Then after she removed the restraints she took care of the areas on his wrists and ankles where the restraints had broken the skin. She sat with my husband and talked with him about his feelings about his cancer - which no one had done for his entire hospitalization. She answered all of his questions and told him what to expect. She ensured that his pain medication was delivered on time so he would not experience any pain, and any request that he or I made she ensured was met immediately. She did all of this while taking care of other patients and not once did she break under pressure or give my husband attitude. She even spent time with my family and I, making sure that we were taken care of as well. She was such a blessing.
When my husband lost his battle with cancer she was there at his bedside holding his hand and reassuring us that everything would be all right. She hugged us all and talked with us about our feelings; she even helped me with arrangements because I had no clue what to do. She left that day and I realized that I never got the chance to say thank you. She will never know what an impact she had on me and my family.
It is so nice to know that there are people out there like her taking care of us in our hours of need. She single-handedly restored my faith in mankind - especially nurses. I hope she gets through nursing school because she is very good at taking care of people. She is without a doubt the nicest young lady in the entire World. Everyone that comes in contact with her is truly blessed, because she is an angel.
Thank You so much Amanda.
Love,
The Winters Family
