Allison Schloss - Lifesaver

I met Allison through an unfortunate situation on the subway this past winter.  I was on a crowded car and my wallet must have slipped out of my bag, which was overflowing with stuff that day.  I didn’t even realize it until I heard a stern voice say “Excuse me, is that yours?” Naturally, I looked to see what was going on and to my complete shock I saw a man holding my wallet halfway inside the sleeve of his jacket.  I was about to begin shouting except this woman seemed to be doing it for me.

“Give her wallet back!” she yelled.

“I was just picking it up for her” he pleaded, not convincingly at all.

He held out the wallet and I snatched it from his hands. 

I thanked her quietly as I was still very nervous about being a few feet away from someone who tried to steal my wallet.  But when she got to her stop, I got off too and told her how grateful I was.  I tried offering her a reward but she wouldn’t accept.  “You have to watch yourself in this city” she told me in the caring tone I would soon grow to recognize. 

We exchanged business cards and to this day we still e-mail a few times a month and have gotten together on a number of occasions.  I am so thankful to have met her.
